Walter
S. & Evan C. Jones, sons of Welsh parents, were reared on
a farm north of Lebo in Coffey County, Kansas. Upon inheriting
200 acres of land at the turn of the century, Walter and Evan
started Jones and Jones, a successful farming and cattle partnership.
When Walter married Olive Taylor in 1911, the partnership continued
with three members. In early 1953, Walter Jones died. Evan died
a few months later. To fulfill the terms of the Jones Brothers'
identical wills, the Walter S. & Evan C. Jones Foundation
was established April 24, 1974. Their desire was to assist children
(those under 21) in Coffey, Lyon and Osage counties with their
medical expenses. Under a court ruling, education benefits were
added to assist with post secondary education regardless of
age.
